NYC Notary Public Licensing California's Secretary of State requires that new notaries must complete a six-hour course of study. You can take the class in a classroom setting. The state exam is given right after the class. The average cost of the class is upwards of $65, depending on which school you choose. The entire process can take ten (10) hours. The registration process begins with six hours of mandatory class time. Proctored testing takes approximately one to two hours depending on how long it takes to read the instructions before the exam.

The online notary classes allow students to download study materials and study at their own pace, without any distractions or pressure. The student can schedule the exam at their convenience, at the location of their choosing, once they are ready to take it.
